Olympics could have 'limited spectators'
Due to the growing number of coronavirus patients, the Japanese government intends to maintain restrictions on sports activities. Under current regulations, arenas and stadiums can accommodate no more than 5,000 spectators at a time.
In Japan, such a restriction was introduced in July. Initially, only up to a thousand fans could attend the competitions, but then this number increased to 5 thousand. The restrictions were supposed to take effect by the end of August, but the Japanese government decided not to lift them, but to extend them indefinitely. The reason for this is the epidemiological situation in Tokyo, where they will have to host the Olympic Games in July-August next year.
Improving the epidemiological situation in Japan is a key condition for hosting the Olympic Games. That is why in the fall the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee, the county government and the city government will develop additional measures to combat COVID-19.
Shortly before, several Japanese high-ranking officials said that in all probability, the virus will not be defeated by the end of 2021. Therefore, holding games behind closed doors should not be ruled out. It is also possible to allow spectators at the Tokyo Games, albeit in limited numbers.
